Welcome to Vimmerby

In the middle of the countryside in the south of Sweden, you find Vimmerby a small town with the genuine country feeling.

Vimmerby lays in the north of Småland and about 300 km from the swedish Capitol Stockholm and 300 km from Gothenburg. The nearest big town is Linköping about 100 km from Vimmerby

In fact, Vimmerby had its charter as early as the 14th century. The main street, Storgatan, still has the shape in which it was built in the medieval time. There are also many old wooden houses in the city.

Vimmerby is currently a tourist attraction due to historical links with Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). The Astrid Lindgren's World is an amusement park for children that has themes from her books, and is visited by fans of hers from around Sweden and Germany. Vimmerby has a population of  7,827 (2005).

When Astrid Lindgren wrote her books about the country boy Emil in Lönneberga and the worlds strongest girl Pippi Longstocking she used much information from her own upbringing in the rural areas of Vimmerby.

Here you’ll have the fresh air and the birdsong on your very doorstep. You will have plenty of peace for a quiet and calm vacation, but if you want to it´s not far from more crowded areas and bigger cities.

In the surounding area you’ll find the gravel roads, the horse pastures and the typical Swedish red houses with the white corners. And you won’t have far to The Baltic Sea and the small islands of The St Anna Archipelago. Where you’ll find the small islets, the bathing cliffs and the boat trips that will rock you to sleep.
